Philately, properly speaking, is the study of postage stamps.
To purists, stamp collectors collect stamps, where philately is the study of stamps. A stamp collector may have some philatelic knowledge, and a philatelist may or may not own a stamp collection. The general public may not make the distinction. The American Philatelic Society covers both stamp collecting and philately.

Philography is the hobby of collecting handwritten documents, specifically signatures, especially of celebrities.
Verb: To produce or reproduce text, art, designs, graphics and the like (especially in large volume) through any mechanical process involving the transfer of text or designs to paper, cloth or a similar medium.
